Chapter 9

Mindy and I got in the car while the others were getting ready to go to the pool. Our local pool was quite near us, so we went there often. Maybe 5-10 minutes? We were at the pool by then.
“Have a great time guys! We’ll be there in 30 minutes or so okay?”
“Alright, mom. Bye.”
We got off and my mom drove away. The pool was marked as “reserved” because we paid an extra 10 bucks to have the sign up. It was sunny. Real sunny. I thought this was a good time for me and Mindy to talk privately while tanning.
“Let’s go on the tanning beds. We could also talk about what you wanted to talk to me about earlier.”
“Okay. While you were trying on your bathing suit, Alex came in your room and started apologizing, asking if we should to get together, it was horror.”
“Omg..that’s who you were talking to. Did you say you had a boyfriend?”
“Yeah, and he wanted to know who it was. Now, update me on Jake.”
“Well, he did tell me we were “friends eating together” or whatever, so I’m just wearing shorts with a t-shirt and a flannel.”
“Boringggg. You need a dress to show yourself off, girl. Ooh..also a diamond necklace. This is a date. I guarantee,” Mindy said.
“A date doesn’t always mean a dress and jewelry, a least in my mind.”
“Ugh, you never listen to me. That won’t get you anywhere in life.”
I rolled my eyes and just lay there waiting to get sun-kissed. It was complete silence. I was quite shocked how Mindy had the nerve to me to tell me that I wouldn’t get anywhere in life if I didn’t listen to her. But still besties..right?
“Hey, I’m sorry I said that. I just want the best for you on your date.”
